[WANTED: HOW TO FIX THIS] Beosould Level Microphone not Working

Beosound Level is indeed strange. After removing the battery the microphone worked again. Some days later it stopped working. After the battery ran dry it works again ...

However, after a software update the microphone stops working again. It's clearly a software issue.

Honestly speaking: I give up on the mic, and turned it off permanently. If you restart the device the mic will work. However after a software update it stops working. B&O is silent. so the reason could be the programming skills at B&O or some weird Google issue. Since they also hide their code the problem will remain unsolved.

For a product at this price tag this is not good, however I koop the device because of the excellent sound quality and I use it as a fancy alarm clock.

Bang and Olufsen's App ruins the products

 Again! I am frustrated with the Bang and Olufsen app. The user experience is a nightmare. Especially after more or less random "updates" of the software. After every update something does not work ... again. 

Bang and Olufsen's products turns useless after a software "update" in the app. This happens once a month or so after updates. Today Bang and Olufsen's Multiroom does not work.

My devices begin to malfunction after three years:

• The buttons for favorite choices on Beosound 2 do not work any more.
• The microphone on Beosound Level does not work.

Yes the sound is fantastic.

But your App tuns the products into a useless thing.

I really like the ideas behind the B&O products and the general aesthetics, but in the end the most important thing for speakers and televisins is this: it must work! The user experience should not be destroyed by software pollution and constant update hickups. 

My intuition tells me that the malfunctions of the microphone is not a hardware issue. The microphone turns off after updates in the software. So I will not waste time and remove the battery again, since the software will turn the thing off after the next update. This is of course insane - and it's a very well known problem that should have been solved years ago. 

I guess that the hardware and software departments in B&O are not in sync. 

You don't have to be a beta tester by B&O. Unfortunately most of the app is in az constant beta mode, where some vital function does not work for now. I wish that B&O could learn something from Linux here. Please invent stable software, and please stop the developers when they "fix" something that worked fine before a software engineer tampered with the code.

In all fairness I should add: suddenly the Multiroom works again. Yeah! But it's still like being a beta-tester (and I did not join the B&O beta tester community).

[PROBLEM] Beosound Level: Microphone not working

(Worked a couple of hours, then the mic ceased to work!)

For the second time the microphone stopped working out of the blue. For weeks I tried restarts, factory resets and what not. On the web several posts recommended to take off the cover, and remove the battery for ten minutes. 

Recipe:

1. Remove the cover.
2. Take a screwdriver and remove the 12 screws over the battery.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Wait 10 minutes.
5. Put the battery back.
6. Remount everything.

The Level will start as soon as it it repowered.

[SOLVED] Ubuntu: No Desktop Environment

Suddenly Ubuntu's desktop did not work. A "startx" command died too. But I could log into the command shell. The cure was a reinstall:

sudo apt install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop

A few moments later everything went back to normal. 

Ubuntu and Logitech Gamer Keyboard

For years I used a terminal command in order to set the keyboard colors. But it's more practical to use Piper. For unknown reasons Piper would not show up in Ubuntu's software installer, however the solution was:

# sudo apt install piper

How to remove Logitech hub on a Mac

For weeks I tried to remove the Logitech Hub, that was not needed any more. Removing the programme seemed impossible. But then I found this recipe on github: https://gist.github.com/timotgl

A few of the commandlines could not find the directory, then I added -rf to the terminal commands. 

After this I ran htop, and the annoying process was gone. So was the app. Cool!

BTW after deleting these directories &c. I had to restart the Mac, because a process tried to open the missing directories. But after a restart the problem was gone.

[WHY?] PowerPoint turns on the Cam on a MacBook

 I don't know why MS PowerPoint wants automatic access to my webcam on my MacBook. However, it was an easy fix. I just removed the access to the built in webcam under the securiy settings. Why on earth should a presentation program claim access to a user cam??

[SOLVED] Beoremote only shows "TV" - Contour not found

 I could not use the remote. Tried to pair via the app. Noting seemed to work. Even pressing the reset button on the back did not work.

In the B&O app I restarted the Countour. Then I tried to pair the remote with the Contour from the B&O app. This approach worked.

IMHO the Beoremote is so elegant, but cases like this happen too often. I am not sure that I'll buy that remote again, since it's more easy to control the TV via an app.

MitID - transfer to another phone sucks

I cannot take the goddamn ID-photo ind the app. Error every time. Of course you have to start all over every time. 

This registration sucks big time!

Now I have to go to the "Borgerservice" (Public Service) office in person. 

On the pass photo you have to remove the glasses one thread suggested. Then I have to read the instructions on a screen, however I cannot read them without glassses ... Tried with and without glasses 10 times or so. 

This app sucks big time! I asked the helpdesk to take these UX problems to the management, but I seriously doubt that anything will happen here. 

[PROBLEM/SOLUTION] I not allowed to edit documents in Microsoft Office 365 on a Mac

 

Suddenly I have read only access to all my Microsoft documents. The error message is that I'm not allowed to edit MS documents ".. on a Mac". I have no words ... apart from the memory my two decade long frustation with anything from Microsoft.

So they have taken all my documents as hostage. Microsoft is worse than a virus. Microsoft is a security risk.

A solution
The immediate solution is this: use Libre Office. Open Source software is more secure than the crap from Microsoft.

PS: I have experienced weird problems with Microsoft. At home I ditched Microsoft in year 2000. At home I use Ubuntu.

PPS: Note to myselft - don't use Microsoft unless you have to workwise.

Workaround that worked
Just log in with the same email as usual ... then the account will work. So the problem was an error message that did not make sense!

New Mac: Macbook Pro (2024)

Initiating my new Macbook ran like a charm. I used the migration tool from the old model to the new. Waited (a very fine opportunity to practise guitar / Boss GT-1). To my surprise most things worked. 

First the brew stuff did not work. However, after half an hour or so it was also updated. So here is everything about it:

MAMP 

I had to reinstall MAMP to an ARM version. I exported the database from the old PC. Then everything seemed to work. All my versions of WordPress databases were imported - and everything just worked out of the box. Even the old MAMP settings were intact (I have all the files in my Documents folder, it's just more easy).

How is it?

• Macbook Pro with Apple M3 Pro-chip

Well, first of all this Mac is silent and cool. Perfect for making YouTube videos. And I don't have to use a pillow on the knees. The old one became quite hot now and then. 

Initiating this Macbook was the most easy I've tried so far. Good work from MacIntosh! Wow!

Bang and Olufsen Contour

 As an alternative to the Bang & Olufsen app, try the remote app from LG. You'll have more control options.

In fact a B&O Contour is just a good LG TV with a "Beosound Stage" soundbar under the TV,.

So you can control the TV via the LG and the soundbar via the B&O app.

Stray idea (not tried yet): control the TV via some API from LG. Should be possible.

[SOLVED] Wiseflow - Can not edit questions in a test

So you want to edit a question?
However, the edit option is hidden, and you have to find it by moving the bottom scrollbar. If you try to resize the window, the button will still be hidden. This is an insanely stupid UI (pardon my French here).

Mac OS: Show Battery Cycle Count via Terminal

Here's a howto in the terminal:

[SOLVED?] Google Play: Verify that it's you

 On my work phone google asked: "verify that it's you" - but I could not log in in any way. On other devices Google Play worked. 

I tried and tried, but nothing seemed to work - not even if I took the correct password from other devices. 

The final solution: resert the phone!

Nope - that did not do the trick.

And now the phone seemed utterly useless ... However:

Now this is strange: an old password worked .. even though it was rejected on some systems. The logic is totally absent here, but alas finally I could log in. 

The Cure:

1. Reset the phone to factory standard
2. Install & Use Huaweis Phone Clone 
3. Scan a QR
4. Transfer the data

I had to wait for 15 minutes or so, then the data was transferred. Probably all my data is in China too now. 

Then Google Play worked again.

I used around three hours fighting this #!!!%&&%&!! problem

PS: I am not the only one having these issues. On the web there are several people fighting the same kind of issue. They range from despair to angryness. I almost gave up. And I really don't know why things are working now.

PPS: I was lucky to have another phone that worked. If that had not been the case, well ... let's not even thing about that here.

Logitech G815 Keyboard

The first impression was: oh no a teenager programmed the default cycling colors. It was most annoying, just to say it in a civil manner. A keyboard is a working tool not a lightshow. A tool should help, not distract.

How to initiate a keyboard script at boot

The Script

Here is the script, that I've saved as /etc/init.d/keyboard.zsh

If you use bash, the shebang (i.e. the first line of this script) should be:

Now make the script executable:

chmod a+x /etc/init.d/keyboard.zsh

Execute at startup

The last step is to run the script when the system boots. So:

update-rc.d /etc/init.d/keyboard.zsh defaults

The defaults keyword will run the script per default.

Now the keyboard will have a warm curry color. You can change the color, and get the hexcode for the color by a color picker. The one on Duckduckgo is excellent: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=color+picker&atb=v314-1&ia=answer 

Impression of the Logitech G815

It's a fine keyboard. However the annoying color cycles are stupid. Most of us want a more silent working experience. To this moment I don't get the idea of the G-function buttons. They are next to SHIFT, and this will give a lot of weird misses, like this: 5 4444444444444444448 - yeah this was the kind of accident. Obviously Logitech should have tested the UX of the keyboard on a few users above the teenage segment.

That being said, the feeling of the keyboard is great. I like the click of the buttons. And I like the fact that it is programmable by Linux users - that is if they are not afraid of scripts here and there.

At cold boot the script was NOT executed

In this AskUbuntu thread I found a working solution:

Running crontab -e will allow you to edit your cron.

Adding a line like this to it:

@reboot /path/to/script

will execute that script once your computer boots up.

So I added this to the crontab:

@reboot /etc/init.d/keyboard.zsh

This solution works on my Ubuntu Ubuntu 23.04 x86_64 6.2.0-35-generic system. 

Now I'd like to program the G-keys and the M-keys. 

[SOLVED] Beosound Level - Google Assistant Not Working (again)

 Well, for a while the thing worked like a charm. Today the Assistant did not work any more. This is annoying. The sound quality is fantastic, but the integration with Google is a major problem. 

After a factory reset everything seems to work again. I had to reinstall the Level in the B&O app and in Google's Assistant. 

[SOLVED] Cannot update Chrome on Ubuntu

After update Chrome would not accept the recent version. That's why I used the command line approach. This is what worked for me:
