Linux / Unix: pass and gpg setup

The documentation from pass does not tell you how to connect pass with a gpg key. The MacOS steps are:
  • >>brew install pass
  • >>pass init "Name of your store string"
  • >>gpg --full-generate-key
  • >>gpg --list-keys
  • Now copy the name of the relevant key
  • >>pass init ajdfljdalfjalfjladfalsdfjljflafihei8ytaio
  • pass insert test
  • Pass will prompt the test passwords, give them
  • >>pass test
  • Then GPG will ask for the password.
In a Linux system, the steps are similar, but you'll have to install pass according to your variant of Linux. E.g. on Ubuntu use:

>> sudo apt install pass

Pass: Export to other systems

This solution from a block post by Ryan Himmelwright was a great help: https://ryan.himmelwright.net/post/setting-up-pass/

Quote:

"The thing that we can do is first of all set up a github, gitlab, or whatever repo with pass password database. For that we'll have to install pass-git-helper, it's in the AUR if you're on Arch. Then we'll set up a git repo:

pass git init
pass git remote add origin <url>
pass git add -A
pass git commit -m "initial commit"
pass git push -u origin master

This will push all passwords to git repo, make sure the git repo is private.

Now we'll back up the GPG key:

gpg --export-secret-keys $ID > my-private-key.asc

Copy the file my-private-key.asc to a USB drive or whatever storage device you have before wiping disk.

To restore the passwords again, copy the private key file to the new system and of course, don't forget the passphrase of GPG key and then run these commands:

gpg --import my-private-key.asc
git clone <url> ~/.password-store/

[SOLVED] Beosound Level: Amber light on all of the time

The manual says that there is a "network connection error". I tried to restart, but the solution was a factory reset.

After the reset the microphone worked again. So I quickly ran a room compensation. To my surprise it worked fine.

I could not set up the thing on Google Home. But since I had microphone issues before the Google Assistant is useless anyway. Perhaps it's best to run Level by the B&O app - and then sometimes stream the sound via Bluetooth.

Anyway these days avoiding google is the way to go.

COOP

Used more than half an hour trying to reset my login after a data breach on their part. Well, I have to call them ... they waste my time. Why?

Change from Spotify to Tidal

The Spotify app stopped working for no reason. Somehow I could not see the albums of the artists. At first I thought it may be for a few weeks, but after a month or so I decided to change my streaming service to either Deezer or Tidal. After some research I opted for Tidal

So how's Tidal compared to Spotify?

The sound quality is superb on Tidal. I did not expect this difference. You can hear small nuances in the music, like the very soft sound of cymbals ringing out for a while. With B&O speakers and high quality music ... it's a very, very good experience.

Beosound 2 is just one speaker, but with Tidal the sound is projected around the room - in my subjective experience this is clearly superior to Spotify.

So far very good indeed.

PS: I noticed that the 360 sound is best if you're in a room with closed doors. If doors are open the projected sounds will not bounce as they should. Sound is a strange world.
